Manufactured by N.E.C. in Japan in 1984, this is the UPD8253-5 interval timer controller IC.

It became a very widely used chip mass manufactured in a plastic package for many years afterwards, but this is the original early ceramic version.

A nice example of the early days when Japan was revolutionising semiconductor design and manufacture.
  
 In a classic white ceramic and heavily gold plated 24 pin DIL package, this attractive chip is new and unused, a  museum grade item, a must for serious collectors.
