Manufactured by N.E.C. in Japan in 1983, this is the UPB8238 systems controller IC.

A nice example of the early days when Japan was revolutionising semiconductor design and manufacture.
  
 In a classic white ceramic and heavily gold plated 28 pin DIL package, this attractive chip is new and unused, a  museum grade item, a must for serious collectors.
