IONICA 3.4GHz 9CM RECEIVER

These are receiver modules removed from Ionica 3.4GHz (so the 9cm amateur band) base stations.

Much of the information on this page was gratefully copied from Mark GM4ISM, whose 9cm webpage is a mine of information ! 

Very basically the Ionica base station consisted of 1 of these receive converters, 3 of the PA output modules, a control board and various combiners. We have all the various components stripped from these units available.

If you google Ionica 3.4GHz you will find a mountain of excellent information from other amateur radio enthusiasts who have taken the time to report and detail their projects with these units.

 These receive converters can be used on the 9cm amateur band with no modification, however improvement with small mods are worthwhile.

The Mixer is MCL SYM2190M. Lo level required is +14dBm (1 dB pad fitted on input) The Converter gain is 49dB, (temperature compensated and manually adjustable) nf <3.3dB IF range is 941.5 to 957.8MHz. 

The original input frequency range is 3425 to 3441MHz. 

The 9 way D type connections are as follows, note the +ve supply regulator to the GaAs fets does not become active unless -12v is present.

The IF frequency of the converter is centered on 947.5 MHz. To use any other IF, requires the IF filter to be Bypassed. The IF gain stages work OK at 1296. Front end filtering is insufficient for image rejection with 144 IF and probably 432 IF
