CERAMIC GOLD IC EARLY NSC MM5280D MEMORY CHIP

The invention of semiconductors and from them integrated circuits (IC's - chip's) has revolutionised the way we the human race exists. This section of our shop is dedicated to the growing interest in collecting nice examples of early, interesting and genuinely rare pieces.

People have been collecting these technological marvels for years already, only lately has it become truly evident that it is a real investment opportunity that offers great growth potential; doubtless in 10 - 15 years time as these collectable parts become more and more sought after, prices will have increased 10 fold.

Examples by the technology manufacturing pioneers of our time will be the treasure of the future. Manufactured by National Semiconductor Corperation (N.S.C) in the USA in the first half of the 1960's, this is an early memory chip, NSC MM5280D.

Interestingly these pre-date the specific numbering system later adopted for military class product; the coloured dot on the case top of the chip signifies that the chip has undergone 'burn-in' - a comprehensive and time consuming programme that all military spec product is put through to confirm and gaurentee an items integrity and reliability.

Another interesting point on these particular chips is the factory modification where the gold earth drain track has been broken. We have a few of these all new and kept in storage for the last 30 odd years and they are all the same, all have the gold track broken, so its not just a fault on one chip but definatly a factory modification.

Grey ceramic 22 pin package, with gold top cap, tinned legs.

An nice early example of military product.
